The name " Aiayu" is pronounced [ai-ya-yu], which means "soul" in the indigenous Aymara language of Bolivia.
Large parts of the clothing production take place precisely in Bolivia, India and Nepal. The woman behind the brand is Maria Høgh Heilmann, who has a strong focus on the environment, animal welfare and decent working conditions. She established the brand in 2005, where the mission from the beginning has been to create products with consideration for sustainability - without compromising on quality and aesthetics. The materials consist of, among other things, GOTS-certified cotton, Bolivian llama wool, yak wool from Nepal, handmade wool-dyed cashmere from Nepal and Eri silk extracted from silkworm cocoons in India making it peace silk.
